AOCC Attends the 2026 Conservative National Convention in Calgary

James Yu, President of AOCC and Executive Committee Member of the Conservative Party's South Surrey—White Rock Electoral District Association (EDA), attended the Conservative Party of Canada's national convention held in Calgary from January 29 to 31, 2026. The convention drew a large number of grassroots delegates, party members, and community leaders.

Leveraging his long-standing influence in the Chinese Canadian community and his steadfast commitment to conservative values, James Yu participated as a member of the delegation. He attended all sessions, including discussions on party constitution amendments, voting on policy resolutions, and the leadership review process. He also engaged in extensive exchanges with Conservative members from across the country to gather grassroots opinions.

As an Executive Committee Member of the South Surrey—White Rock EDA, James spoke on behalf of the local association in strong support of the party constitution reform proposal to grant greater autonomy to local riding associations and more independence in candidate nominations. This proposal passed with a high vote at the convention.

During the event, James actively participated in debates on community safety-related issues, including crime policy, immigration screening, and self-defense rights. These topics align closely with his community activism in South Surrey, British Columbia—such as protesting the establishment of drug consumption sites and opposing the inclusion of “supportive housing” in community planning (OCP)—all emphasizing the conservative principles of public safety, local autonomy, and responsible policy-making.

Under the leadership of Pierre Poilievre, the party passed the leadership review with 87.4% support, and the overall atmosphere of the convention was one of unity and optimism.

James stated: “This convention has strengthened grassroots power and laid a solid foundation for the Conservative Party’s return to government in the future. We will continue to advocate at the community level for tougher responses to crime, stricter immigration policies, and the protection of family and safety values.”

As a NGO, the Alliance of Chinese Conservatives (AOCC) plays a key role in encouraging Chinese Canadians to participate in conservative politics. James Yu’s dual role highlights the Conservative Party’s inclusiveness and growth within diverse communities.

The convention slogan “Hope and Optimism” ran throughout the event, signaling that the Conservative Party is gearing up energetically for the next federal election.
