AOCC Representatives Attend "Jail, Not Bail" Town Hall
On the afternoon of October 19, the "Jail, Not Bail" town hall was successfully held in Peel Region. Over 300 people braved the rain to attend, actively engaging with several federal Conservative Members of Parliament to discuss the crime crisis that has unfolded under the Liberal government. At the town hall, seven Conservative MPs—Arpan Khanna (Oxford), Tim Uppal (Edmonton—Sherwood Park), Jasraj Singh Hallan (Calgary East), Larry Brock (Brantford—Brant), Amarjeet Gill (Brampton West), Ned Kuruc (Hamilton East—Stoney Creek), and Kelly DeRidder (Kitchener Centre)—held the Liberal government accountable for the significant rise in crime. They criticized the "catch-and-release" bail system implemented over the past decade, which has been particularly lenient on serious and repeat offenders. The MPs condemned the inaction of the Carney-led Liberal government and its rejection of MP Arpan Khanna's "Jail, Not Bail" bill. They issued a strong call for reforms to the bail system and the handling of major crimes to better protect victims and their families. During the meeting, an elderly couple shared their heart-wrenching story. Five years after their 25-year-old daughter was murdered, the accused remains out on bail, and the case has yet to go to trial. Their testimony drew a powerful response from the audience. Representing the Alliance of Chinese Conservatives (AOCC), Li Zhang expressed the deep concern of the Chinese community regarding the need to strengthen Canada's justice system and ensure strict punishment for criminals. The MPs acknowledged and commended the active participation of the AOCC and Chinese community in advocating for judicial reform.
